Menolly

A tall, gawky girl, slightly knock-kneed and bony, with a long, thin face and a pronounced nose, the second thing one notices about Menolly is a mop of dark curling hair which partially hides her face. She hates to cut her hair. She has long, graceful, extremely strong fingers in a narrow but competent hand. Her sudden smiles light up her face and give her an inner radiance that astonishes those she rewards with her happiness.
Totally unaware of her physical self, Menolly lives for music, any sort of music. Sensitive, compassionate, perceptive, and capable of intense concentration, she was exactly the temperament and personality to learn all that Harper Petiron had to teach her.
Because music comes so easily to her, she is unaware of what a tremendous gift, and ability, she possesses -- a modesty which does her almost more harm than good. Loyal to a fault, she gives her heart unconditionally to the Masterharper and, later, to Sebell, but they are both musicians enough to never take advantage of her and to encourage her in her work.

Just kidding. That's the description of the character from which I took the name Menolly. She appears in the Pern series, which is written by Anne McCaffrey. The description comes from The People of Pern by Robin Wood and Anne McCaffrey, which is available from the Science Fiction Book Club. You might find it used through a used book dealer online. I recommend a meta-search site, such as BookFinder or AddALL. These are also good for finding the best prices on new books.

Now, about the real me.

Who am I?

What do I do?

I used to have a schedule of sorts here, but then life got craz(y|ier). So my activities are much less predictable.

Where am I from?

I was born in Vidalia, Georgia, a town best known for its sweet onions. When I was 18 months old, we moved to Guin, Alabama. It was named after a distant relative on my mother's side. Then, when I was about 4, we moved again. This time, it was to Gautier, Mississippi. Gautier is just outside Pascagoula, which was featured in the Ray Stevens song "Mississippi Squirrel Revival." (503K .au) A few years later, when I was almost 9, we moved to Clyde, North Carolina, which isn't really famous for anything. Seven years later, I went off to NCSSM in Durham, and two years later started college at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. I graduated May 16, 1998 with a BS in Computer Science. While in school, I did an internship with Intel in Folsom, California -- another town immortalized in song (Folsom Prison Blues, by Johnny Cash , lyrics or 226 K Quicktime file). Now, I live in San Diego.
